The Secret of Contentment

So far it looks like good weather this weekend for the Blue Crab Festival.  A couple of years ago I was there and it started to rain. Of course we were completely unprepared for that which is usually inevitable on a summer afternoon. We ducked into a tent where there was a cooking demonstration going on. Now I do love to cook, so does my husband. And they know how to draw you in. Those pots and pans and gadgets can practically do miracles!! By the end of the presentation I had gone from "I'd like to have those"...to "I gotta have 'em!" But they were way out of my price range. Before that I'd been totally content with my kitchen's assortment of stuff, which slowly began to look like I was living in the stone age or something! While new and improved is nice, being content with what you've got, no matter what it is, is very rewarding.  Paul wrote in Philippians 4:  
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through Christ who gives me strength. 
If we can grasp that concept with the material things in life we can certainly put it into practice in the spiritual, where it really matters.
