Something we're really enjoying at my house is homemade kettle corn. A great snack to serve while watching Christmas movies. I have found it to be an exact science - sometimes it comes out great and other times...well...let's just say sugar burns very quickly! But overall it's worth trying it out. But be warned: it's addicting! Tastes just like the stuff you buy at the fair but a whole lot cheaper.
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup unpopped popcorn kernels
Heat the oil and 3 kernels in a large pot over medium heat. Once those kernels start popping the oil is ready. Add the rest of the popcorn and quickly sprinkle the sugar over the kernels. Cover and shake the pot side-to-side constantly to keep the kernels from burning. Once the popping has slowed to once every 2-3 seconds, remove the pot from the heat and continue to shake until the popping has stopped. Pour into a large bowl and sprinkle with salt. Let it cool just a bit, might have to stir it a little to keep it from all sticking together. Enjoy!
